“I love leading from my Filipino-ness, which pretty much means I’m lighthearted and appreciate good humor. It also means I view everyone as part of my pamilya (family) and look forward to sharing a meal with you.”

EJ is married to his wife, JL, and is the proud father of three young energetic children. He holds an MA in Theological Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and an MDiv from North Park Theological Seminary. If he’s not talking ministry or theology or trying to convince you of the merits of liturgy, he’s probably daydreaming of catching Lake Michigan salmon.

“As a second generation Chinese American, helping others in their journeys of faith and ethnic identity is a lifelong passion. My hope is for New Abbey to be a source of inspiration, healing, and joy for all who join and meet Jesus in our midst.”

Jed and his wife Michele met in Chicago and they have four children including one about to start college. He holds an MA in Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, an MS in Marketing from Northwestern, and a BA in Psychology from the University of Chicago. When not preaching or running the sound board, he’s likely talking fantasy football on his local podcast or looking for yummy authentic Asian Street foods.

“Leading this way combines two of my passions: caring for people and music. I get to be the hands and feet of Jesus through my nursing career and lead New Abbey through musical worship.”

Both JL and EJ started this ministry journey together in 2010, learning to trust God in every step. JL is a registered nurse at a local hospital and is finishing up her Doctorate in Nurse Practice from the University of Illinois Chicago. With her passion and training, JL desires to help her disadvantaged neighbors get access to good healthcare. She cares for the “whole” person.
